The baltic numismatist Ivar Leimus has published the following research findings on this piece: This attractive gold coin type with the abbreviated year (15)25 exists in three variants. Firstly, those without an additional mark on the obverse field, secondly, those showing a rosette in the right field, and finally, those with a small cross in addition to the rosette in the left field of the obverse next to the sword hilt, as on our piece. Ivar Leimus noted that most of the pieces were made or cast from corroded dies and often showed traces of mounting. He also considered that the Português with the date 1525 and the two epithets were made only during the Livonian War (1558-1560) – as outstanding military awards.
