When Salzburg Cathedral was destroyed by fire in the 16th century, the foundation stone for the new building was laid in 1614. Then, on September 25th 1628, the cathedral was rededicated in an eight-day celebration under Prince-Archbishop Paris von Lodron (1586-1653). This occasion was depicted many times on coins, both in ducats and in talers and multiple talers – like this 3 Talerklippe. This is an extremely rare variant, still unedited, with a cloverleaf on the reverse.
This 3 Talerklippe will be auctioned at Numismatik Zöttl in the E-Auction 21 on September 10th 2023 starting at 17:00 under lot number 555. The starting bid is 7.500€.
