In 1759, the Wiener Standtbanco (Vienna City Bank) launched its first attempt to issue bank notes. It may be assumed that these notes were never printed in their original form. Their design has only been preserved for us in the form of Modelle (‘patterns’), later known as Formulare (‘forms’), a simplified type of bank note for administrative bodies, bank advertisement placards, etc.
The original text on the recto and verso of a sheet of Formulare, quoted below, with its description of the design and manufacture of the planned paper currency issue, was intended to be used for the issue edict.
